Lauren Wukadinovich, MS, ATC

Lauren is a certified athletic trainer and has been at Sunny Hills since 2016. Prior to her position becoming full-time in 2023, she also taught the ROP Medical Careers and Sports Medicine classes on campus. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from California State University, Long Beach and her Master’s Degree in Athletic Training from California Baptist University.

Sports Medicine Interns

Under the supervision of the athletic trainer, current students at Sunny Hills can apply to be a sports medicine intern. Students learn how to administer first aid, apply preventative taping, and how to rehabilitate our student athletes after injury. This is a great way for students, who are interested in a future career in healthcare, to gain hands-on experience.

What is an athletic trainer?

An athletic trainer is a healthcare professional that specializes in the care and prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions related to physical activity. They work with athletes and other physically active individuals to help them stay healthy and perform at their best. Athletic trainers work under the direction of physicians.

Athletic trainers are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals and athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as an allied health care profession.

Athletic trainers’ work settings can include high schools, colleges, universities, professional sports teams, hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, physicians’ offices, corporate and industrial institutions, the military, and the performing arts.

Athletic trainers are educated and trained in the following areas:

  • Injury / Illness Prevention and Wellness Protections
  • Clinical Evaluation and Diagnosis
  • Immediate and Emergency Care
  • Treatment and Rehabilitation

What should I do if my child suffers an injury during an athletic event or practice at Sunny Hills?

If the athletic trainer is on-site, your student will be evaluated and treated according to level of severity. If necessary, the athletic trainer will call 911 and the parent/guardian will be contacted.

Where is the athletic training room and when is it open?

Room 141 is where the athletic training room is located and it is open during lunch, 6th period and after school. Depending on the day, the athletic training room may be closed due to home game coverage but the athletic trainer will post a sign as to where they are located on campus and students can visit them for ice, taping or check in about an injury.

Do I need to make an appointment for injury evaluations or treatment in the athletic training room?

Yes, Sunny Hills has over 900 student-athletes and depending on the day, availability to be seen by the athletic trainer can be limited. Please use the appointment links attached to schedule appointments with the athletic trainer. In-season sports will have priority over off-season sports.

Do I need to make an appointment to get taped in the athletic training room before practice or games?

No, you do not need to make an appointment to be taped before practice or games.
