Work Permits & Employment

Students under the age of eighteen (18) must have a work permit on file with the school and their employer.

Before looking for a job connect with the College & Career Center, Rm. 2 to verify your eligibility to receive a permit.

 

In order to be granted a Work Permit, the student must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a 2.0 or higher GPA.
  • No F's in graduation required classes.
  • The student DOES NOT have more than 3 unexcused absences in a period in the current semester.

Know Your Rights

Per AB 800, all California high schools must provide a "Know Your Rights" document to students. Students will receive this form physically when they sign their permit form.

  1. Do not plan to submit your first draft. Edit, rewrite, revise, and seek advice.
  2. Do not allow information to get lost by jumping around. Keep information grouped in a logical way that flows to form a clear picture of your activities and accomplishments.
  3. Do not use multiple fonts and styles.
  4. Do not turn your resume into a novel. Brief and concise are the keys.
  5. Do not use abbreviations. Assume your reader will not know what your acronyms stand for.
  6. Do not include school contact information, mission statement, or other information that pertains to your school.
  7. Middle school does not count. Colleges are only concerned with your accomplishments in high school.
  8. You do not need to restate your transcripts.
  9. "Th" does not belong. Use 9, 10, 11, and 12 to indicate grade level.
  10. "Who's Who Among American High School Students" and other similar "awards" are not considered by colleges to be legitimate.
